Mobile And Baldwin County Alabama
— For Work And Play
At the end of the Mobile work day, an easy commute across the Causeway over Mobile Bay takes you home to Spanish Fort, Daphne or Fairhope — laidback suburbs known collectively as the Eastern Shore — where Mayberry meets Margaritaville. And a quick 40 minutes south is Alabama’s beautiful Gulf Coast, home to family vacationlands Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.
Fish in Mobile Bay off the Fairhope or Daphne piers or find a secluded spot along the Causeway — permits are just a few dollars at Wal-Mart! Or choose another form of water fun: boat, personal watercraft, kayak rental, boogie board or old inner tube.
Evidence of water’s huge role in the lives of Eastern Shore residents is found in their backyards and garages: coolers — great and small — for every occasion, boogie boards, swimsuits, beach towels, dive toys and Sea-Doos, Stauter boats and luxury vessels.
Of course, that's not all you find on the Eastern Shore. Even a partial list of activities and amenities is long: championship golf, youth sports leagues offering soccer, basketball and baseball. Plus, a large YMCA facility for everything from yoga to weight lifting to spin classes. Then, there are arts and crafts festivals, health food stores, nature areas, plant nurseries, shopping ... oh, and don’t forget Mardi Gras.
From Mobile Bay down to the Gulf, a number of fine restaurants serve up the area’s abundant seafood the old South way — fried — or give it a New South cosmopolitan twist. During Jubilees, periods of hot dry weather, oxygen-starved shrimp and flounder, eels and croakers literally flop onshore and into your bucket or net for the taking.
A quick drive to the Gulf takes you to Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, perfect spots to find a family vacation home or for just a day at the beach. Once you’re barefoot in the sand and soaking up the sun, your cares melt away. And before you know it, the hairy plight of newborn sea turtles returning to the sea takes top priority. But that’s okay; you’re not alone. At the “Share the Beach” program you can join similarly smitten volunteers who help these creatures find their way.
So grab your flip flops and come along. You have only to choose between the Gulf’s white sandy beaches and the Bay’s oak-draped shores. At both prime locations you get Alabama’s vacation life year-round with glorious sunshine, seafood galore and all the activities salt- and fresh-water lovers adore.
Mobile Real Estate — Alabama’s City By The Bay
Sports fans everywhere know Mobile as hometown to Hank Aaron. Today, his childhood home serves as a museum alongside the stadium bearing his name. Baseball fan or not, you don’t want to miss the Mobile Bay Bears Great Hot Dog Cook-Off, the team’s annual charity event held at "The Hank."
Declared by National Geographic Traveler as one of the nation’s “top 50 places to live and play,” Mobile is the birthplace of Mardi Gras. But as someone who grew up in New Orleans, I still hate to admit this because no other city does Mardi Gras like the Crescent City. I will grant that Mobile and the Eastern Shore have a respectable fun-filled two-week-long parade season to usher in Lent. So, join the throngs of costumed revelers, lavish floats and live marching bands that pack downtown streets in celebration — and bring on the moon pies!
To welcome spring, enjoy lively outdoor concerts at Bienville Square. And regardless of season, take in heady delights at Bellingrath Gardens — azaleas, roses, chrysanthemums and camellias. Only the beauty of Mobile AL homes for sale equals the appeal of Bellingrath’s classic blooms or the region’s delicious pecan and key lime pies.
Spanish Fort Real Estate — For Elegance and Flair
Although Spanish Fort real estate represents the smallest of the municipalities flanking Mobile Bay, it’s at the heart of the Eastern Shore’s largest commercial development, The Eastern Shore Centre lifestyle mall, which provides steady employment and caters to residents’ every need.
Whether for catch and release or catch and eat, fishing licenses are available almost anywhere sporting goods are sold, so stock your tackle box and get ready for a weekend of fun! Pack up the camping gear, too, and head to nearby Meaher State Park. Or take a leisurely drive to Blakeley State Park where Civil War sites awaken the area’s deeply rooted past.
High above sea level, with a rolling terrain, Spanish Fort offers both existing homes and new construction. Plantation shutters, half moon windows and stately columns display graceful Old World charm — while strong earth tones, cathedral
ceilings and colorfully landscaped walkways and gardens unravel into private decks inviting homeowners’ easy relaxation.
Built by volunteers several years ago, Spanish Fort Kid’s Park is now rivaled by Spirit Park — something for the older set — which features tennis courts, walking trails and a ball field. Spanish Fort is also home to the Causeway, a man-made land-bridge over Mobile Bay and host to a handful of restaurants where you can dine on steamed, broiled — and of course — fried seafood or watch the sunset while the eatery’s house band plays along.
Daphne Real Estate — A Luxurious Watercolor
It’s no surprise that early explorers and Native American tribes fell in love with Daphne. This beautiful town overlooking panoramic Mobile Bay is a vast playground for your every interest: Sunset Series music, stables for riding lessons and boarding, and youth sports including baseball, softball and British soccer camps. Dance, yoga and martial arts at the fitness center keep you in shape. Plus, Daphne is home to Mayday Park, a free public pier and boat launch; Centennial Park with its children’s playground under ancient oaks, Lott Park for the tiny T-Ball set and Trione Sports Complex for soccer, baseball, soft ball and dog park.
Daphne real estate is a photo album come to life: garages designed to house golf carts and boats, multiple full bathrooms and walk-in closets with custom shelving and room enough for cozy settees. Designed for outdoor living, Daphne AL homes offer elaborate decks, simple covered porches, custom in-ground swimming pools and — for snuggling during the mild winter months — outdoor fireplaces. And it’s all yours to enjoy; you earned this vacation lifestyle and easy retreat from Mobile’s busy workday world.
Fairhope — Real Estate And Homes To Reawaken Your Creativity
Fairhope began as a place where singular taxes were declared, and that independent streak continues today. Fairhope has a small town feel, yet offers plenty of enrichment and excitement to be discovered. Amazing murals by local and distant artists heighten your senses while coloring downtown streetscapes.
An abundance of recreational activities for pre-school and older kids ensures they’re never bored. From vegetarian to French Quarter to traditional diner fare, there’s always great cuisine to enjoy while spending an evening by the pier. And who knows? The annual Arts and Crafts Festival may one day list you as a featured artisan.
A favorite of retirees, Fairhope real estate features homes with spacious screened-in porches enveloped by acres of oak and magnolia trees — maybe even a babbling brook for that special country feel. You’ll also find golf communities, designed for the leisure lifestyle, and quaint cottages within walking distance of town. Perfect for easy shopping, lunch or taking in spectacular sunsets over Mobile Bay. So, why wait? The sooner you move in, the sooner you can feel at home again.
Gulf Shores And Orange Beach Real Estate — Pure Coastal Escapism
Everything that makes for comfortable seaside living is found with picture-perfect Gulf Shores and Orange Beach real estate — crisp clean colors, spacious rooms, bamboo flooring, luxurious hand-crafted details, covered decks, boat slips, sand-dune walkovers. And your private pool or spa bath with whirlpool tub fulfills your need to unwind at the end of the day while savoring the breeze and sweet salt air.
Gulf Shores and Orange Beach homes for sale are ideal for permanent family vacation retreats or for hosting large gatherings, reunions or corporate meetings. Duplex homes offer another popular option that enables you to share the quarters with extended family or rent them out for investment income. Who doesn’t love the beach to be mere steps away?
With either Orange Beach or Gulf Shores real estate as your go-to place for quality family down-time, there’s never a shortage of sunset picnics accompanied by the sound of gently lapping waves. Exciting entertainment at one of the many marinas. And recreational activities for all ages at the state park and championship golf and tennis clubs. Maybe grab a po’ boy with sweet potato fries and head out on the water to cast your line for snapper, mackerel or trout. Or you could while away the time browsing beautiful glass creations at the art center ... or just lay around. After all, you’re at your own family vacation home where the choice is yours alone!
